Dorcas Kamuya, Wellcome Trust Society & Ethics fellow, conducts empirical ethics research examining if and how communities could be engaged on complex ethical topics, with bio-banking as a case study. As a social science researcher in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), her research interests span several interrelated areas: ethical issues for complex research topics in LMIC; and the responsibility for researchers and research institutions conducting research in resource-limited contexts. She is primarily based at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) in Kilifi, Kenya; and is a member of several collaborative initiatives including Global Health Bioethics Network, H3Africa Community Engagement working group, Africa Ethics Working Group (AEWG) on Neuro-disability studies; International Association of Bioethics (IAB), among others. Maureen Njue, Research Assistant and Erasmus Mundus PhD candidate in the Department of Public Health, at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp in Belgium. Until one year ago, she was working at the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kilifi, Kenya, as a Research Assistant. Maureen’s main interests are around research ethics and how these are applied and experienced in reality in the Sub- Sahara African context.
