Contributor Biography

I originally trained as an infectious disease epidemiologist, undertaking doctoral and post-doctoral research on epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases and operational research on their control. Through a programme manager role for the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative working with the Ministry of Health in Tanzania my interests in global health broadened and I became interested in Research Funding moving to a role at the Wellcome Trust in their International Activities Science Funding team. Over nine years in various global health funding roles at Wellcome, my work in research on research and global health funding policy grew and during my final two years I founded the first global health insight and analysis function within Wellcome. Since then, I have been undertaking a range of global policy research and research on research work for a variety of funders and funders groups. I also enjoy teaching research students and am currently a Teaching Fellow in policy and evaluation for the University of Oxford International Health and Tropical Medicine Masters Course. My current work with COVID CIRCLE has brought together this prior experience with a focus on improving the research response, especially for research in LMICs, during the COVID-19 pandemic. I now work with the GloPID-R Secretariat, based at the University of Oxford, on research preparedness for infectious diseases.
